Visits/Visitors

This is a place where I can put where I visited or who visited the DVLR!

 Feb 2010

The DVLR visited the MHLR once again for a beginning of spring gala (Spring starts very early in Cornwall!)

2 days were spent steaming in Cornwall both on the MHLR and with Pete's 5 inch Polly 1.5 "Bluebell". It was a really great time and I really enjoyed myself. Once again the staff of the MHLR are welcome to visit the DVLR when ever!

Some videos of the day in the garden:

The Seibient Hill Railway

The SHR was the second railway I visited. This lovely little line in Wales is a stone's thrown (literally) from the Ffestiniog Railway. With tight corners, interesting point work and a dodgilly reguaged rear pony truck on River Butley (32mm gauge) meant that it caught and stuck in all sorts of places around the line! So the pony truck was removed and it was run bunker first as an 0-4-0! Great fun was had trying to get a ride on the line with my digital camera and the owners of the line were found to be very friendly. Tea was consumed and trains were run and the world or Narrow Gauge was discussed! A very enjoyable time was had and the staff of the SHR are welcome at any time to the DVLR (apart from Christmas where no trains are run!!

The last vid is some of the bloopers that were recorded that show the more human side of garden railways!

The Mawnan and Helford Light Railway

This was the first ever Garden Railway I have visited apart from my Grandfather's Bondorf Musaum Bahn (G Scale) A lovely day was had although it was a tad windy and River Alde's burner was badly effected by this. I also took along my reguaged River Butley which at the time was out of time and had a bust Cylinder Gasket. It struggled but wheezed it's way along and struggled up the MHLR gradients. It found its youth again though on the way past Maenporth down a rather steep gradient!!! The MHLR fleet were then fired up, I drove the bertie class 'Columba' and Mr. Clarke of the MHLR drove the edrig class 'Ben-Ben'. Soon it began to rain so we retreated to the sheds were Mr. Clarke kindly fitted a tommy bar to the lubricator drain for River Deben so I don't burn my fingers when emptying after a run. Much fun was had here and much ginger ale was drunk- thanks Clarke- I am now hooked! The staff of the MHLR are always welcome to visit the DVLR with any reguageable stock going!
