About

The Deben Valley Light Railway is a small garden railway located in rural Suffolk. The Deben Valley Light Railway is set in the 1800s, and opened in 1858, a year before the Woodbridge station appeared.

The Deben Valley Light Railway is set in a beautiful walled garden and runs above the flowerbeds from Snape Maltings to Woodbridge, stopping at Aldeburgh and Lower Butley on the way.

The Deben Valley Light Railway was adored and admired by the locals and the services of the DVLR were used by locals and tradesmen alike.

The railway itself is built on wooden shelves, above the flowerbeds in our tiny courtyard garden. The DVLR begins it's journey in the Snape Maltings station located in the shed and passes over an elaborate lift bridge substitute as it makes it's way to Woodbridge station at the other end of the garden.

The Deben Valley Light Railway is a 45 mm gauge, that has been lovingly developed by myself, to pay homage to the railway which people forgot to build. The DVLR runs on a scale of 16mm: 1ft, which is a popular scale used by many railway enthusiasts who are developing a narrow gauge model railway of their own.
